Doubt

Church was great Sunday. I was so impressed by the thoughts of those who spoke. Some people expressed their concern for doubting things they have always known to be true. As I listened to them, I wondered what I might say to help them see that doubting is not always bad. I believe that from faith grows from doubt. As I sat thinking of the perfect thing to say, a man got up and said, "Doubt keeps faith nimble." I loved that quote so much. I tried to look for the source of the quote and only came up with a few essays on a few of Emily Dickinson's poems. Emily Dickinson was a genious...a little strange...but definitely a genious. I love lots of her poems. Here is one of my favorite poems I found as I searched for the quote:
This World is not Conclusion.
A Species stands beyond --
Invisible, as Music --
But positive, as Sound --
It beckons, and it baffles --
Philosophy -- don't know --
And through a Riddle, at the last --
Sagacity, must go --
To guess it, puzzles scholars --
To gain it, Men have borne
Contempt of Generations
And Crucifixion, shown --
Faith slips -- and laughs, and rallies --
Blushes, if any see --
Plucks at a twig of Evidence --
And asks a Vane, the way --
Much Gesture, from the Pulpit --
Strong Hallelujahs roll --
Narcotics cannot still the Tooth
That nibbles at the soul --
--Emily Dickinson

So there you go. I think it is okay if people doubt from time to time as long as they look to find truth from the only true source: God.
