Random Sunday thoughts

Despite the disappointing playoff series between the Lakers and the Magic, we've had a great week. Not much happened. It rained like crazy. The newspaper claims the weather is completely abnormal. I don't really think so. I swear it rains a lot in May and June in Utah. I have always loved the rain since my mission. I no longer use an umbrella. I think they are pointless. I also don't run to my car or house to get out of the rain. I walk a little slower to enjoy the rain on my face. I laugh when I see people flustered by the rain. Rain is wonderful. Thunder is even better. I often compare thunder storms to God's rockband. I bet he has fun. I know what you are wondering...what do I do with Mya when it's raining? Sometimes I let her enjoy the rain too. She likes it. She looks up to see the source of the water and when the answer never appears she just smiles and shakes her head. Most times though...I cover her with a blanket. I don't want her to get sick. And since she is covered, I walk at a normal or slower than normal pace.

The rain has not put a damper on our grilling. I think I forgot to tell everyone that we finally got a small grill. We love it. This week we cooked chicken, baked potatoes and hamburgers on our new little toy. I just love the taste of grilled food. Especially grilled veggies. We have been lucky to grill between the random rain showers.

I have been thinking a lot about things I love and despise right now and I thought I might share them with you. Maybe you love or despise some of the same things. Maybe not. I thought I would start with my list of things I despise and end on a good note. The first thing I just can't stand is pictured just below.
What I can't stand right now
1. The Lakers: I hate the Lakers. I don't like their attitude. I don't like how they get babied. I don't like how they swear all the live long day. I despise the way Kobe purses his lips. I hate how all the announcers talk about is the Lakers. Do they realize another team is playing? Doubt it. The blessed Lakers are on the court. I strongly dislike this series.
2. Utah drivers in the rain: I think they missed the memo that rain should not inhibit you from making conscious decisions and driving normally. Please get off the road until the rain goes away.
3. Overpriced baby clothes: I believe I have said this before, but I really can't believe how much stores charge for clothes. Last night, I bought a pair of shorts for $13.99 for myself. We went to look for shorts for Mya and guess what the price was...$19.99 on sale. That is ridiculous. They use way less material.
4. Days when Mya will not nap: I think only parents can understand this one. A non-napped child can be rough. Enough said.
5. Parks without swings: I have tried to take Mya to different parks but the three parks we have been to do not have swings. What is an eight month old supposed to do at a park without swings.
6. Jobs that don't call back: I don't like that you don't hear anything after an interview. I think it is a little rude. I take time to go interview. They should take at least five minutes to call and say, "Good luck finding another job."

On the other hand, here are a few things I love right now:
1. The way Tim runs his fingers through my hair before we go to bed.
2. Prayer
3. Mya's laugh when I crawl near her
4. Unexpected letters/packages
5. Skype with family
6. Making pies
7. Sunsets
8. Holding Tim's hand in the car
9. Running
10. Feeling the burn in my thighs after running
11. Talking to strangers
12. Cutting coupons
13. Reading the newspaper
14. Cutting the unimportant stuff out of my life
15. Receiving a call from a good friend
16. This sweet face

  1. I loved your lists today. I'm a freak here in L.A. because I too hate the Lakers! And this is Laker Land!! I can't stand Kobe. He is a ball/glory hog and NOT a team player.
