All in a week

We had a busy week this past week. We were very grateful for a Monday holiday that allowed us to spend extra time together. Our "together" time seems so scarce these days. Tim and I are trying to stick to our budget so cash is also scarce so we decided to do some fun "cheap" things. I have wanted to go camping since we got married but our camping gear includes a tent and two chairs. We looked at campsites in Wyoming and Idaho but in the end, we knew we would spend more money purchasing what we needed to camp than we would actually camping. So we set up camp in our backyard. It was really fun. And a lot cooler than sleeping indoors in our sauna. It is literally twenty degrees warmer upstairs where we sleep than outside. It is normally tolerable but after sleeping outside, I began to wonder why we hadn't ventured out more often. It was free and we were able to wake up and shower with warm water. I can't think of a better camping activity. We drove to Park City to walk around and admire some of our favorite photographers. Tim and I have loved Park City since we were married. We love when the leaves change color. We crave the laid back attitude of the vacationers. And we wait patiently for the candied apples we buy each time we go. It may be the best three dollars we spend all year.

We sadly returned home knowing work awaited us. The week passed quickly and we were able to spend more time watching football and inventing food this weekend. I can't believe all you can save eating indoors.

I added some of my favorite pictures of Mya. She is getting so big. She is almost a year old. Just three weeks shy of the celebration. She is climbing on everything. She makes a mess anywhere she can. But she has the sweetest smile in the world. I can't help but love her.

What have you been up to lately? What are some of your favorite cheap activities? Please tell me. Maybe we can do them too.

  2. I can't seem to think of anything that we do anymore...seems like all we do now is nurse, sleep, and change diapers. I love the idea of camping in the backyard. We have hoards of camping gear that never gets used. Here's to the next holiday so you can have another day off!

  6. Brilliant guys! Fred and I talked last weekend about setting our tent up in our living room (since we have no yard)but we never got around to it. I'm glad you guys had so much fun. The pictures are great!

Some of my favorite cheap dates include:
    - Going to a bookstore and reading together...usually little kid books we enjoyed growing up, or books of foreign lands and planning a "dream" vacation, or perusing through history books with lots of pictures and taking note of the styles of clothing, cars, buildings, or anything really.
    - Fred loves to feed the ducks which is lots of fun, especially with young kids around.
    - Doing service projects together is usually fun and cheap too, like serving in a soup kitchen or cleaning up a park and then just playing around afterwords.
