meet him

Like dogs, Christmas trees usually complement their owner's personalities. Ours does just that this year. We braved the cold and went in search of the perfect tree to brighten up our not so bright house. We found him resting in a pile of runner-ups. At the lot, he seemed so perfect. Once we brought him inside and shook him out a bit, I realized he was a lot like me and not at all perfect. But with a little tweaking and nipping, he's just right. Hello handsome.

I feel a kinship with this little man. He is quite a bit smaller than our past trees. As we trimmed him up a bit, I began to think about me pre-marriage. When Tim and I were dating, I wanted him to think I was the ideal mate so I always tried to be on my best behavior. Of course he saw through some of the act, but for the most part I had him believing he was marrying this really cool, collected, sexy woman. We had a good thing going. Well, we got hitched and month after month, pieces of the real me began to shake out. All of a sudden, we both realized I wasn't as perfect as I thought I could be. After four plus years of marriage and a lot of trimming and tweaking, I am just right for both of us now. Plus, I've always tried to maintain the sexy part just as a little bonus to my ever patient husband.

Mya's going to flip tomorrow when she wakes up and sees the lights on the tree. All week she's been asking when we are going to have Christmas. She knows you can't have Christmas without a tree. Happy decorating!
