Our families

I'm sure it's no surprise that my favorite part of our trip to Argentina was each visit with families we loved while we were missionaries. It would've been impossible to visit every family, but we did try to see as many as we could.

As missionaries you see families with one lens--nearly all lessons are focused on one thing, and while that one this is obviously the main thing (Jesus Christ), sometimes I would step outside the box and teach to the basic needs of the families. I worked with families dealing with infidelity, death, divorce, illness, anger, loss of faith, and so much more. As quickly as I could, I would try to discover what each family needed, and I would teach to that need. I don't remember a single lesson focused on getting references or missionary work, but I remember the need lessons--I remember them so well because I now use them in my own life.

Being with these families thirteen years later and having so much more life experience, we were able to sit around and discuss those same topics, but with a different lens and scope. It meant the world to be with them and it grounded me more than I could've imagined.
