We have been busy the last couple weeks...well, busier than usual. We have had so many things going on that we really needed a break. Luckily, Drew and Donna invited us to spend the afternoon with them at Alta. We had a wonderful time. Donna watched Mya while I skied with Drew and Tim for an hour and a half. Let me remind those of you that don't me...I had never skied before. It was my first time and it took all morning to get the nerve up to do it. I got there and Donna convinced me that I would be fine because of my ice skating background. Drew kept saying, "Skis are like big ice skates." Whether this is true or not, I felt more comfortable going so I agreed to do the bunny hill. Drew helped me put the skis on because I had no idea what I was doing and I clumsily made my way out to the rope that pulled you to the slopes. I think the hardest part was trying to move the skis when I wasn't skiing down the mountain. I couldn't move them like I can with ice skates. Well, within minutes we were on the ski lift, and I began thinking..."This is a large bunny hill." It wasn't the bunny hill. Drew wanted me to get the real experience so we just went up a normal slope. I decided I wouldn't die since there were a bunch of five year olds skiing without poles and went for it. I must admit that I thought I would die on numerous occasions but I had so much fun! There is something liberating about riding down a mountain at an incredibly fast speed. It was such a beautiful day that I just enjoyed the wind blowing in my face. The mountains were splashed in snow and it was gorgeous. We went down the slopes three times (it was all we had time for), but I decided I would do it again in a heart beat. I don't know why it took me so long to go. Fear is a terrible thing. It stops us from doing great things. Thanks Drew, Donna, and Tim for insisting that I try skiing. There are pictures and a video below for your enjoyment.
What else has been happening around the house? Only four weeks left after tomorrow! Yeah! I hit the wall with student teaching. I am bored of writing lesson plans and the only thing keeping me there are my kids. I love 95% of my students. What can I say? The other 5% are just punks. They will get a kick in the pants when they get their grades...and if that doesn't wake them up...hopefully, high school will. I can't wait until they wake up to the world of homework and papers. They have had it easy in junior high.
Mya continues to pull herself up. I am waiting for the moment she can sit by herself. She is chewing everything. I think a tooth is on its way. She is enjoying baby cereal. She is also loving the warm weather. We have been taking long walks and she just sits up and watches the cars drive by. She talks the whole time...well, until she passes out.
Tim continues to be the most handsome husband in the world. Sorry girls...he's taken...forever. He has been such a huge help to me this week by making my lunches and bringing me things I forget when I go to school. He plays with Mya all day and I think Mya is becoming more and more of a daddy's girl.
I am going to begin training for the Salt Lake Half Marathon this weekend. My friend Tawni and I will be running it in the middle of April. I have lots of training to do in a short time. Can I do it? We will see. I pray for warmer weather. I hate running in the cold. It makes my lungs burn.
I think that is about it. Have a great week.
HAHAHAH EWWWW the fountain of spit-up! That's hilarious!!
