ruby stole a piece of my heart

This was the very first picture I ever saw of Ruby Jane and of all the pictures posted--it is still my favorite. Those twinkling blue eyes and that bright smile caught my eye the moment I saw them. Ruby's unique story soon took my breath away.

Ruby, one of my most favorite girls' names, is daughter of Matt and Ani Taylor. I have never met Matt nor Ani and don't think our paths will cross anytime soon. Ruby died nearly a year ago because her liver did not function properly. She honored her parents and the world with her tiny spirit for a little over seven months.

Her story made--continues to make--me cry from time to time. I found out about her situation just after my healthy little Genevieve was born in March. Every time I would hold V in my arms...I would just ache for Ani. I have no comprehension of what the past year and a half has been for her, but in those quiet newborn moments, I really tried to send my love to her through loving my own child. I hope you will take the time and visit Ani's blog: Just for the record, especially if you have ever or are currently struggling with the loss of a loved one. Ani will amaze you; she always amazes me.

  1. I had found their blog a while ago and was so touched by this story. It reminds me of my days on the pediatric unit where there were the cutest little fighters in the world. We just have to be grateful everyday that our babies are healthy and with us.
