This little brown-eyed beauty keeps me on my toes. Her three--almost four--year old body houses a very old and observant spirit. She has a keen awareness of the things and people that surround her. Nothing slips by her. I often forget her young age when we talk because I feel like I am talking to a teenager; however, I am reminded of it when she begins her crazy tantrums (which thankfully are becoming less and less these days). It is much easier to reason with her crazy side. We are ever grateful.
As much as I admire how much she notices, it does have a major downside. Mya has yet to learn tact when trying to tell me something about someone else, and she shouts her thoughts/ideas in such a way that the person she is talking about can absolutely hear her. I am usually left baffled and rosy-cheeked as I quickly find an exit or a new aisle to avoid confrontation. I know she's three and just hope other people realize that too.
Here are just a few of her recent sayings:
- She saw an elderly man walking very slow in the grocery store and said, "Mom, that man is walking so slow. Maybe his pee-pee hurts like yours is going to hurt after you have a baby." I have been trying to teach her that she will not be able to jump on me for a few days after I have the baby, and well...this is what she took from our conversations. Awesome.
- Anytime she sees someone in an wheelchair she likes to ask, "Mom, are they in that chair because they ate too much and didn't exercise?" Sadly, that is probably correct but I don't think they want a three-year-old reminding them of their bad habits.
- She noticed a woman with a hump back yesterday while picking a donut at the grocery store and without any reservation she turned and yelled at Tim, "Dad, that lady has a BIG back. What happened to her back?" Red as a tomato, Tim just grabbed her and removed her from the bakery as quick as possible.
- Our poor adolescent neighbor girl is dealing with the common bout of acne. She normally wears makeup so I don't think Mya ever noticed until two weeks ago when we saw her outside in the morning. Mya ran over to her and started talking to her but before she could spit out a second sentence Mya scrunched her nose and asked, "What happened to your face?" She then looked at me and said, "Mom, why does she have all those boo-boos on her face?" I tried to mend the situation and called them freckles, but Mya wouldn't have it. She knew what freckles were and acne doesn't look a thing like them. So we ended up finishing the conversation quickly and returning home while she continued to repeat, "Mom...tell me what happened to her face." I felt so bad for our sweet neighbor.
- We watched a little boy last week, and he wouldn't talk to me or Mya. He is very shy so I just let him do his thing. I was upstairs when I heard Mya raising her voice, "Boy, why don't you talk? Talk! Can't you talk?" I hurried downstairs and she said, "Mom, there is something wrong with him today. Can you fix him?" Oh Mya, people are not like toys.
- Tim took the girls to Wendy's while the car was getting serviced. Mya walked slowly out of the bathroom with her shoulders tense, and when Tim asked what was wrong, she said, "Dad, that bathroom was really stinky." Tim then asked her if she had made it stinky. She shook her head and pointed to the lady sitting two feet away and said, "No, she did. She made it really stinky." Let's just note that they grabbed their frosties and ate them outside.
That made me laugh out loud. She doesn't miss much does she? Kids, they call it like they see it. Thanks for sharing. I'd be interested in seeing how you respond to her when she says those things. Sometimes it's hard to explain it to kids.
ReplyDeleteOH No! that's such a hard stage because they are just saying what's on their mind, totally innocently, yet its totally embarrassing for the parents... and slightly amusing. That's smart to write them down, you'll all get a good laugh some day.
ReplyDeleteGotta love kids! Reminds me of the time my oldest was about her age and we were at the library (aka, quiet place where you can hear anything) and a little person walks by us and he goes "oh look! he's just a little teeny tiny!"
