23.

In the past three days, twenty three people have made this all too familiar comment: "Looks like you've got your hands full."

Twenty-three. I think that's a record.

And you know what? They're right. At any given moment on any given day, I usually have one peanut crying. I almost don't hear the crying anymore. It sounds more like static white noise and if I let it, I bet it could lull me to sleep. And on the off chance that someone isn't crying, there is a good possibility that I've lost sight on one of my children. So I grab the other two in both arms and trudge off to find the guilty peanut hiding or playing with toys in a corner of the house or the museum/park/zoo/etc.

My life is a circus. A wild one at that. Only the strong survive my home. I think my kids would make the weak leave screaming. Yes we have a lot of fun, but we also have many tears. I blame those dang female hormones for the constant crying.

So although my hands are full and rarely have a free moment, I wouldn't change it for the world. This is my life. I may not have signed up for all the challenges I currently endure, but I am certainly strong enough to get through them. And I'm taking it one day at a time.

To you twenty-three strangers: Yes, my hands are full. Thanks for not offering a helping hand. Yes, I noticed how quickly you escaped my presence. But don't worry, I am doing just fine...even if my baby girl now has a gash on her head from your lack of help.

  1. Oh dear, poor V! I don't know why people think that comment is in any way helpful. Whether you've got one or five, when something's gone wrong and your child is screaming/crying/tantruming in public, the last thing a mama wants is to be told, "looks like you've got your hands full!" Instead, why don't people say something more along the lines of, "Wow, even your screaming child looks beautiful, you lucky mom!" I'd appreciate that a LOT more, and it might help me gain my own composure and calm down enough to help my child, instead of feeling like I'm making a scene and need to hurry and escape! x
