Motherhood right now is messy hair--usually unkempt ponytails or buns. Motherhood is tickling each child at night. Motherhood is making so much food that the kids refuse to eat. Motherhood is driving 30 miles in one direction for one child only to do another 15 later in the day for another child. Motherhood is encouraging all the messy drawings. Motherhood is taping every piece of artwork above my bed at night. Motherhood is feeling so tired at 2am when Timmy climbs into bed but smiling just the same because well, it's Timmy. Motherhood is saying "make a better choice" multiple times a day. Motherhood is also saying, "I'm just one person. Please give me a minute." Motherhood is reading a few minutes of a novel at bedtime. Motherhood is listening to Queen every morning during my exercise. Motherhood is giving up exercise time to help a crying child. Motherhood is always carrying bandaids--especially Toy Story bandaids. Motherhood is snuggling. Motherhood is missing nap time. Motherhood is volunteering at the kids' school to help kids improve writing. Motherhood sometimes means mothering other people's children and loving them as my own. Motherhood is writing in my schedule book on Sunday and having everything change within 24 hours. Motherhood is finding patience in the far corners of my body. Motherhood is loving my exchange daughter even though I don't always understand her (teenagers!).
Motherhood is good right now. It nearly killed me at Christmas time, but I'm back, and I'm feeling settled again. I know I am loved, and I know those that love me know I love them right back.
