The only word appropriate enough to describe how I have felt over the past week and a half watching the olympics is mesmorized. I don't know what it is about the Olympics that makes me want to stay up later, come home from work earlier, and never budge from my couch unless absolutely necessary. And I will admit only on this blog that I have done all of the above in the last week. I just can't get enough. While I obviously support and cheer on the American athletes, I can't help but root for all the athletes. There is something amazing to me about the fact that all these athletes have worked their bums off to reach this goal. It was a goal I too had as a child. A goal not realized. In the past, I usually paid attention only to figure skating but my attention has broadened to all sports during these events. Perhaps it is because I didn't understand the other events growing up. Perhaps it is because I was an ice skater and didn't care about the other sports. But I have loved all the events this year. I think my blood pressure rises with each race. I probably would die an early death if the Olympics ran all year round.
I have been basically satisfied with nearly all the outcomes of the games with the exception of a few differences of opinions in the men's free skate. I will leave my thoughts to myself seeing as ESPN has enough debate about the sport on its website. Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that we are still alive. High blood pressure and all. We are just so excited about the games that the blog is taking a back seat.
I'm with ya on the olympics...they are so great! And I nearly die every time the speed skaters put their fingers on the ice on the turns...I'm just waiting to see one get cut off...eeekk! Just thinking about it gives me the chills!
