To start...I just want to say one thing. It is hard saying goodbye to your dog when you know it most likely will be the last time you him. This is my dog. Jack. He came into our lives right when we needed him. When everything else was spinning downward, he brought our hopes back up. Nearly one when we picked him up from his owner and badly abused, Jack was a shy and reluctant pal for the first little while. But then love won him over. We have loved him since day one and will continue to love him when he is gone. I was fourteen when he came home for the first time. I am 26 and am pretty sure he will not be there wagging his tail when I go home next time. He is old. We all know his time is short. We are just coaxing him to live a little longer. For my dad really. He is going to take it hard. Just talking about it made him tear up this weekend. Just writing about it now makes me cry. So what do people do when they say goodbye to a pet they have had for more than a decade? I don't know. There is a lump in my throat. I love you Jack.

So going home was a hard in one sense but great in another. Tim and I were able to spend some quality time with my parents and their pool. My mom is doing really well post-surgery and has already returned to work. Obviously taking it easy but enjoying the outside world again. On our downtime, Tim, Mya and I went swimming. We had a blast. It was also fun to see all the grandparents and celebrate a pre-father's day dinner. The dinner started out with a literal bang when the water heater blew, but luckily all the men pitched in to help while the ladies remained inside visiting. Matt drove in on Saturday, and we were able to spend a little time with him before we left Sunday morning. I am so happy we were able to see everyone. I missed Amanda. I will have to find another way to visit her. Our schedules were just a little off that we couldn't go down the same week.

  3. I'm so very glad that you were able to spend that time with family. I know that they love seeing you! Poor Jack! Even though we haven't always gotten along, I've always respected him. Pets are part of the family. They have unflinching love and loyalty.

  5. Ahh! Mya is just soooo darn cute! I LOVE her swim suit!! Ha! It's adorable! And I love all the pictures of her, she seems so fun! I'm sad about Jack :( We had a dog like that and she got so old my dad took her to get put down and went back to pick her up balling--and he even had to PAY to get her out! Weird huh? But he couldn't stand the thought of it...then we found her dead in our back yard a few weeks later :( it's sad how pets become part of the family!!
