lemonade

i once knew this girl
we weren't close friends, but we were more than mere acquaintances
although we shared the same age, she was the teacher and i was the pupil
she was dealt a large bowl of lemons
but she quickly learned to make the sweetest lemonade
she died three years ago
there isn't a week that passes that i don't think of something she taught me in her final three weeks
now people honor her by doing what she loved
they run for her
just as she ran for others
i wish i lived in arizona so i could run in her race
but i will pound the pavement here to remember her on the same day of the race
if you didn't know her, you should probably start from the beginning
she will amaze you and touch your heart even though she is gone
if you live in arizona, i hope you will participate in her race
it would mean a lot to me...but more importantly...to the family she left behind
