i have a plan...it just rarely pans out

I have never been a planner. I've always considered myself a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of girl. However, motherhood is quickly changing my old ways. If I don't have at least a rough outline of how I'd like each day to run, things, and more importantly...kids, get out of hand.

Most days I accomplish roughly 60% of the things I plan, which I consider a great success. However, I do have days when nothing goes according to plan and the kids are crying/screaming incessantly and my mind is unraveling and a bomb explodes in the house and we order a $5 pizza for dinner...and well, you get the point.

I hate those days. I try to return to my natural free-spirited state and just let the chips fall where they may, but I usually end up crying in the bathroom. Why the bathroom? Because it has a lock and on days like those, locks are my best friends.

Let me be honest, I have at least one terribly rotten day each week. I think it's inevitable with three hormonal girls and near freezing degree weather outside forcing us to remain indoors. But because I dislike those days so much I really do try and stick to some sort of plan.

What are some activities included in my daily plans? Learning to write letters, singing primary songs over breakfast, dancing on the coffee table for a mid-morning exercise, racing up and down the stairs, playing tag and worsey, reading books before naps, baking a delicious snack for the neighbors, dressing and redressing all the Barbies and baby dolls, jumping in confetti/fake snow, coloring pictures, painting cards for family, cuddling on the couch.

Even though I love all our normal activities, I could use more suggestions. Have any for me?

Here's an example of one of our baking adventures just last week:

I used biscuit dough to make quick cinnamon sugar donuts. They enjoyed making them but really loved eating them. I'm all about creating things out of nothing and came up with this idea on the spot.

  1. We play the animal game. Each person takes a turn picking an animal and then we pretend to be that animal. They request that frequently. We taught them Red Light, Green light, Stop. You can even play it inside if theres a big room or long hall. We dress up A LOT. Pretty much my kids are in costumes 80% of the week. Lol its fun. We play snowball fight. I throw little marshmallows at them, it gets my frustration out and they love to eat marshmallows :-) Don't touch the lava, where I put carpet squares on the floor and we can only step on those or up p onto the couch. one last idea...we take thesempty gallon jugs that use to hold water, and a ball and we "bowl". Or just try to knock the jugs down.
