4th of July

We arrived in Texas just a couple of days before the 4th of July. We missed our town's annual firework show because for some reason they celebrated on the 3rd instead of the 4th, and we had no idea until it was too late. We don't have any friends yet so we opted to explore the town and visit our local cemetery.

We've really tried to teach the girls about the importance of honoring all the people who serve our country, and the girls have really taken to it. Mya asks all the time if a man in uniform is part of the service, and I've had fun explaining the different units involved. We took the girls to the cemetery with flags, and they placed the flags on graves of men and women who served in the military.

The experience was memorable minus the fact that now Mya is terrified of all the stones and bones that lie beneath the earth. We tried to simplify every answer, but now she has lots of questions. Happy 4th of July. We really are blessed to live in this country and enjoy the freedoms we do. We know it, and we are trying to promote a sense of patriotism in our girls in every way we can. Hopefully next year we will also enjoy a delicious barbecue with friends.
