Arizona

So it's been over a month since we returned from Arizona, and I'm a bit embarrassed that I am just now getting around to posting these pictures, but better late than never, right? Right?!! Even as I write, I am listening to Tim scold our girls for coming in and out of their rooms, and I'm thinking, "Oh I should really go up there to help him." But then I'd never post these pictures.

I was terrible about snapping candid shots, but I did try to get a few group shots when the whole family was together.

As it turns out, my dad is amazing with babies. I'm not sure if it's just because he can't hear them without his hearing aids so crying doesn't bother him, or if it's just his natural ability to make babies feel calm, but Felicity loved my dad. She didn't love him the first day, but I kept reminding him not to take it personal, and he forced her to love him. By the end, they were two peas in a pod. I'm pretty sure my dad would be the world's best nanny if he wasn't already the world's best grocer, which he is. And the girls loved my mom. They waited each day for her to get home from work, and they pounced on her as quickly as possible when she walked through the door. She has a way of getting on their level and playing with them that astounds me. I guess she's always been that way because so many pictures of my childhood are with her sitting on the ground playing with me. My girls are so very lucky to have these two in their lives.

We also had the opportunity to see Hayden several of the days we were there and meet our new cousins. My parents went from 5 grandkids to 10 grandkids in a month. It's been a lot to take in, but I think they are adjusting, and we are all learning about each other.

I had the best time in Arizona. It's probably my favorite visit of my adult life. Things flowed better than they usually do, and I felt myself wanting to stay when it was time to leave. I usually bolt at the first opportunity for freedom in any large family situation, but my heart was sad to go. It just felt good to be together.
