Genevieve's baptism

Genevieve was baptized yesterday. It was a really special experience. Before the baptism, I talked with Genevieve a lot about why people choose to get baptized and what it means for our lives. I honestly don't think anyone really understands all that baptism entails--whether they're 8 or 58, but I think it's important to understand why we choose to do it.

Genevieve is a special girl. She asks the most questions out of my kids and doesn't necessarily have the easiest time accepting my answers. I sorta love that about her because that is how I am. I have tried to teach my kids to have a curious mind and to be comfortable with being uncomfortable for a time. I don't believe faith is a simple path; at least it hasn't been for me. It's been full of ups and downs. I believe and then I don't believe and then I believe again. My kids know all of that because I feel like they should know what faith can look like. No one faith is alike.

Because Genevieve sees things a little differently, we decided to change the traditional baptism program and focus more on discipleship. It was a beautiful meeting. I think everyone--friends and family alike--felt God's love. I did. I am grateful to everyone who came to support her. She is a lucky girl; so many people love her. I probably do the most! ;)
